Benjamin S. Roscrow

Benjamin Sargent Roscrow, 96, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina.  He was born August 30, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joshua and Elizabeth (nee Dunn) Roscrow.

While attending Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Benjamin worked at A.O. Novander Monument Company starting at age 15. Upon graduating high school, Benjamin continued to work at Novander while he attended Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, where he would graduate with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering in 1952.

Two weeks after graduating college, Benjamin was drafted and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 while stationed at Savanna Ordnance Depot, Illinois.

He and his college friend, Henry T. Banks, purchased A.O Novander Monument Company in the late 1950’s and became successful, long-time business partners.

Benjamin and Henry sold the monument business and purchased World Supply Corporation, an auto parts distribution company in the mid 1970s. The business grew and thrived throughout the Chicago and Northwest Indiana region. After Henry retired, Benjamin eventually sold the corporation in the mid 1990s. During retirement, he and his loving wife, Genevieve, enjoyed watching the Cubs and spending time with their grandchildren & great grandchildren at their homes in Chicago, Bonita Springs, Florida, and Monroe, North Carolina.

Benjamin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Genevieve Caroline (nee Zekonis) Roscrow; his children Susan (Michael) Gianpetro and Thomas S. Roscrow; grandchildren Alyssa Alvarado, Kirsten Warden, Lindsey Roscrow, and Ryan Roscrow; and great grandchildren Everly, Emmett, and Beckham.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter Grace Gianpetro; and his siblings Margaret (Louis) Meinhold and J. William (Darlene) Roscrow. 

Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 10:30 am, at the Church of the Transfiguration, 12219 S. 86th Avenue, Palos Park, Illinois.  Burial to follow at Orland Memorial Park Cemetery in Orland Park, Illinois.
