David Wielgus Obituary

David S. Wielgus, age 59, was born in Chicago, Illinois the first born of Marilyn and Stephen Wielgus, who raised David in the near western suburb of North Riverside, Illinois.  Dave graduated Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois and then earned both his B.A. and M.B.A. from DePaul University.  He worked his way through college with a job at Dominick’s Finer Foods.

Dave met Miss Julie Egner on a blind date set up by friends.  The friends thought that these two were just right for each other.  Lo and behold, they were right.  Dave and Julie married on August 11, 1985 at Mater Christi Catholic Church in North Riverside, Illinois.  Julie not only became Dave’s wife but also became his bestest buddy and lifelong pal.

As a young adult Dave participated in organizations such as Sokol and the Slovene Center National Benefit Society (#559-Cicero).

Most recently Dave worked in the Human Resources department for Nicor Gas.  He enjoyed his work and was successful at it.

Dave started playing baseball at age 5 and played well into his 50’s.  Baseball, racquetball and being a Chicago sports fan were always part of who Dave was.

Together, Dave and Julie led one of the top contributing teams in Illinois for the Multiple Sclerosis Society Walk.  They called their team Wiel Power.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Naperville and was actively involved in facilitating their Share Christmas event annually.

He also very much enjoyed travel, including many times to Hawaii.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Julie, nee Egner; his dear brother Dale (Janice); one loving niece and seven great nephews.  David was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
