Dennis Keith Hoelzer

Dennis Keith Hoelzer, 64 years old, passed away on Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 at his home in Batavia, IL after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 4th, 1953 in Franklin Park, IL and was the son of the late William and Eleanor Hoelzer. 

Dennis grew up in Franklin Park and then went on to spend the rest of his life residing in Batavia. He spent much of his free time at the family cabin in Crystal Falls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan near the waters of the Michigamme Reservoir as well as their home in Sanibel Island, Florida. He attended West Leyden High School in Northlake, IL and graduated in 1971. After high school, he went on to attend Triton Community College where he aspired to become an auto mechanic. Denny quickly gave up this endeavor and went to work at a startup computer company (Comma Corporation) as a Computer Technician. Comma Corporation was then purchased by Control Data Corp where he quickly ascended to become manager of their computer refurbishment company in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Denny’s dream had always been to start his own company, which he did in 1982. Sentinel Technologies is now a high-end IT Services company located in Downers Grove, IL. Sentinel has grown and flourished under his leadership along with others that he brought on board over the past thirty years. The company now has 500 employees and is located in six different states. Dennis was married to Mary Hoelzer on September 8, 1979 and they were happily married for over 38 years. His favorite sport was hockey, and in addition to being a passionate Chicago Blackhawks fan, he was influential in cultivating his son Brad and daughter Jessica’s love for the game where they both went on to be successful college hockey players.

Denny’s favorite hobby was buying old Jeep Wranglers and then rebuilding and refurbishing them entirely. He cherished his times with friends and family on Jeep trips in the backcountry trails of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Dennis treasured his family above all else; he is survived by his wife Mary in Batavia, his son Brad and daughter-in-law Elyse in Chicago, his Daughter Jess in Chicago, and brother Jim Emmel in Batavia.

A private celebration of Denny's life will be held by the family. In loving memory of Denny, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, information is below.
