Donald H. Grotzky

Loving husband, Loyal dad, Awesome uncle, and Remarkable grandpa!

Don Grotzky, born February 5, 1929, lived an active and productive life. Don was born in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Cecelia and John Grotzky, sister to Phyllis Rodabaugh.  

Don married the love of his life, Reinette, on November 7, 1975, at St. Leo’s Church in Grand Island.  They lived in Grand Island for a couple of years, and then Don’s career took them to York, NE, followed by Norfolk, NE. 

Don graduated from Grand Island Senior High School, Hastings College, Grand Island School of Business, and the Graduate School of Physics and Mathematics at the University of South Dakota.  His early years were spent working at the Union Pacific Railroad and at the Physics Laboratory at the University of Iowa, & later as a Certified Quality Engineer at Dale Electronics. 

Don loved staying busy!  Don and his nephews, and later he and Reinette, spent many hours together in the duck blind while hunting mallards on the Platte River. He was an active Ham Radio Operator connecting with fellow Ham Radio users across the globe during the ‘nightly net’.

Don served in the US Army from 1950 through 1952, serving in Japan and Korea.  He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Don was a loving influence on his family who cherished him.  Don’s family is his wife, H. Reinette Grotzky, his 3 children Tom Paulick, Pat Lekacz and Jan Veleba, his 2 nieces, Pat (Rodabaugh) Brouliette and Soni (Rodabaugh) Grint, his 2 nephews, Tom Rodabaugh and Bruce Rodabaugh, and his grandchildren/grand nieces and nephews, Ben, Will, Alex, Hayden, John, Billie, Chelsea, and Logan.  

We will miss him.

We find ourselves wondering…

Did we remember to thank you enough

For all you have done for us?

Did we thank you for when you made us feel like 

We were the most important person in the world?

Did we thank you for your loyalty, and

For all the times you did what was right for us?

For all the times you were by our sides

To help and support us…

To celebrate our successes

To understand our problems

And accept our shortcomings?

Did we remember to thank you enough

For teaching us by your example,

The value of hard work, good judgement,

Courage and integrity and faithfulness?

We wonder if we ever thanked you

For the simple things

Like the laughter, smiles and times we shared?

If we have forgotten to show our

Gratitude enough for all the things you did,

We’re thanking you now.

And we are hoping you knew all along,

How much you meant to us

And how much we love you.
