Giovanni Salvatore Signa, age 93, was born on February 2, 1926 in Palermo, Italy. He was the oldest child of Salvatore and Salvatrice Signa. He passed away peacefully on April 20, 2019, in Lombard, Illinois. Giovanni was the loving husband of the late Marianna (nee Russo); beloved father of Frank (Anna) Signa, Sam (Rosaria) Signa, Doreen Signa, the late Joseph (Maria) Signa and the late Salvo Signa (his 1st born); cherished grandfather of John (Michelle) Signa, Maria (Mike) Traversa, Sam (Allie) Signa, Joseph LaPorte, Anthony Signa, Fabrizio Signa, Raffaele Signa, and Vanessa Signa; great-grandfather of Frankie and Jacob Signa, and Luca and Emma Traversa; fond brother of Francesca (Giuseppe) Randazzo and the late Joseph (Joan) Signa and Santo (Maria) Signa. He was a caring uncle and brother-in-law to many.
Giovanni lived a very simple and dignified life; he loved gardening, telling stories of his days on the farm when living in Italy, playing Scopa, horseshoes, bags and going on long walks. He enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, drinking red wine, folding napkins, and eating his Cheerios with coffee and milk every morning for breakfast. He will be remembered for his big heart, kindness and sincerity towards others. But most of all he will be remembered for the love he had for his family, whom he spoke very fondly of every chance he could. He will be truly and deeply missed.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 26, 2019 from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1101 23rdAve., Melrose Park, IL 60160.
