Hal Tegen
Hal Tegen, age 61, died peacefully on September 21, 2019, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, Illinois after a short battle with cancer.
Hal was born January 11, 1958 in Berwyn, Illinois, the third child and only son of Bud and Maria Tegen. He graduated from North Riverside High School. Over his career history, Hal was an expert locomotive and truck diesel mechanic. He later left that profession to go into carpentry and plumbing.
Hal is preceded in death by his parents “Bud” Haldon Tegen and Maria (Hofmann)Tegen. He is survived by his son Jesse Tegen, and daughter Crystal Tegen; and his sisters Cindy Zimmerman and Renate Melka.
From his teens into his 20’s, after his day job, Hal worked part-time at a roller-skating rink. He was known for his roller-dancing and ability to jump, twist and turn. He could put on quite a show. Riding motorcycles was also a favorite pastime for Hal. Later in life, Hal worked side by side with his son Jesse on several construction and plumbing projects, which allowed them time to share stories and spend time together.
A private gathering will be held by family and friends. Memorials can be directed to the American Lung Association for Mesothelioma Research.
His family invites you to visit the “Condolences” and “Photos” tab of this memorial to leave a message or memory, or to upload your favorite photo of Hal.
