Ignac Rebrica, 86,
Heaven gained another angel, Ignac passed away peacefully holding Ivanka’s hand on August 4th, 2021.
He was her beloved husband for 62 years. Married her as Ivanka (Mikec),he was the loving father of the late Dana Blase (James) and Ann Marie Zajac; proud and loving grandfather of Karl Blase, Emily Blase, and Jackson Zajac; dear brother of Marija Glavac (Ignac), the late Darinka Tkalac (the late Tony), and half- brother to Rozina Zizek (Ivan), Gizela Zver (Jozef), and Ignac Hozjan (late Angela); fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
He was born in Gornja Bistrica in the Prekmurje region of northwestern Slovenia. Growing up he worked many jobs to support himself and went to trade school. He moved to Germany and then to Austria where he worked and lived on a farm. In December 1956 he moved to the United States and became a US Citizen. He worked at his aunt’s restaurant and a couple of other places to support himself.
In 1957, he met Ivanka, in a Slovenian dance group and on May 30, 1959 they married and went on to having two daughters Dana and Ann Marie. In in 1965 he began his career at ElectroMotive Division in LaGrange as a sheet metal worker and retired at the young age of 57. Once retired, he took up golfing and loved to go with his grandsons and friends. He also liked to bowl and play poker. Ignac enjoyed outings with his family and his many Slovenian friends and work friends with his loving wife by his side. They traveled to Slovenia and Canada to see their families and went on cruises and other small vacations.
He was very active in the Slovenian Community and Head Usher for 25 years at the Slovenian Catholic Mission. He was a member of the Slovenian Cultural Center, Prekmurje Social Club and KSKJ.
Ignac loved his family, his church, his heritage, He was a stranger to no one and a friend to all. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visitation: Monday, August 9th, 2021 4:00pm - 8:00pm at Zarzycki Manor Chapel 8999 South Archer Ave. Willow Springs, Il. Lying in State Tuesday 9am until 10am mass at St. Mary Slovenian Catholic Mission, St. Mary Monastery 14252 Main St. Lemont, Il. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery Justice, Il. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Mary Slovenian Catholic Mission, St. Mary Monastery. Arrangements entrusted to Debbie Zefran Jerry funeral director and friend.
