Irene M. Hinz, nee Danforth, age 75, passed away peacefully, on November 6, 2015, in Lombard, IL. Irene was born in Chicago, on August 20, 1940, to Wallace and Eleanor Shontz Danforth. Irene graduated from Hinsdale Central High School and went on to attend the Teacher’s College in Evanston.
Irene was the beloved wife of the late Charles Hinz; the devoted mother of Tiffany (John) DiJohn and Ariann M. (Doug Pokorny) Hinz; and loving grandmother of Sam, John and Joe DiJohn.
After the sudden death of her brother, William Danforth and his wife, Claire in 1985, Irene and her husband, Chuck, took over the responsibility of raising and caring for William and Claire’s children, Catherine (Gerrod) Hampel and Matthew (Cynthia Snavely) Danforth. Catherine and Gerrod have two children, Emma and Ethan Hampel.
Irene was the dear sister of Marianne Dannielson, and the late William and late James Danforth; she was a fond half-sister to Mark Danforth.
Irene worked for many years at Pepperidge Farms in Downers Grove, IL. During her career there, she worked in such capacities as a line worker, in data processing and in dispatch.
All who knew Irene would agree that she loved to take care of others. She volunteered as an usher at the College of DuPage Arts Center, she enjoyed playing bunko with friends and going to fairs and eating cotton candy and other sweets. She loved watching baseball, funny movies and TV shows, especially “The Golden Girls”. Irene loved playing with her grandchildren. In all that Irene did, it was clear that she liked to help.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation and Burial on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, 17W201 Roosevelt Rd., (just West of Rt. 83) Oakbrook Terrace, IL.
