James E. Rapcan, age 67, of La Grange Park, Illinois passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2020. James is survived by his wife Sheila, of 34 years; sons Jeremy Rapcan and Matthew Rapcan; his mother Phyllis Rapcan; his siblings John (Pam), Mary (Mike) Crowther, Tom (Beth), Tim (Carol), Dale (Sandy), David (Kim) Rapcan and Karen (John) Weston; and many, many nieces and nephews. James is predeceased by his father John Rapcan, Sr.
James graduated from Lockport Township High School in 1970, after which he volunteered and served in the US Navy on the USS Shasta during the Vietnam War. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Metal and the Vietnam Service Metal. James earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and his Master of Science degree in taxation from DePaul University. He was proud of his long career as a corporate tax manager. He was a member of the Tax Executive Institute and the Chicago Tax Club serving as the Co-Chairman of the Federal Tax Committee for number of years. He was a reader and eucharistic minister at St. Louise de Marillac Parish for several years. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 1941.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Visitation Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 11:00 am until time of Memorial Service at 1:30 pm at the Lack & Sons Funeral Home, 9236 S. Roberts Road, Hickory Hills, Illinois 60457. https://www.lackfuneralhome.com
