Kathleen A. “Kathy” O’Connor, of Oak Lawn, IL, longtime resident of Larchmont, NY passed away on August 12, 2023, surrounded by her family and friends.
Kathy was born in Chicago in 1964, the first child of the late James and Eileen (nee Looney) O’Connor. Kathy attended St. Bede the Venerable Elementary School and Bogan High School before studying nursing at Lewis University. It was in high school while volunteering at Little Company of Mary Hospital as a candy striper that Kathy realized her life’s calling as a nurse and patient advocate. Shortly after graduating college, Kathy moved to New York where she began a 28-year career working at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Leader specializing in Gynecologic Oncology and End of Life Nursing Education.
Survived by her sisters Mary (Terry) Gallery, and Joan O’Connor (Art Tuscher); loving aunt to James (Kaely), Ellen, and Alannah Gallery; Kathy was a cherished niece, cousin, and friend to many. Kathy's loss is felt far and wide, here in Illinois, in New York and in Ireland, where she visited regularly.
Kathy was known for her outgoing personality and willingness to help and support anyone in need. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and generosity and the many gifts she showered on all she loved. She will be incredibly missed.
A funeral mass will be held at 9:30am on Saturday, September 30th at St Bede the Venerable Church, 8200 S. Kostner Ave, Chicago; Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th St, Alsip, IL.
