Kiki Katsikas, age 62, beloved cousin, niece, and friend, died Thursday, September 7, 2023, in her home. She was born December 27, 1960, in Greece. Kiki was the cherished daughter of Charles (Chuck) and Penelope (Penny Fatouros) Katsikas, who raised her in Chicago during her early years and later in Palos Heights, Illinois. From her mother, she learned to love gardening and flowers. From her father, a car salesman for Ford, General Motors, and Cadillac, she learned to love American automobiles, especially her Camaro.
Kiki graduated Purdue University with a Bachelor’s degree in business. She found her dream job at UBS as an investment analyst and moved from the suburbs back to the city. She loved living in Chicago, even though not having a garden was a tough trade-off. She would often go to Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Garden or Morton Arboretum to wander, especially in the rose garden. Kiki persevered in her career even after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, eventually going to work on crutches and then a scooter. After her father died, Kiki’s mother moved with her to Streeterville. They decorated their home beautifully, always including fresh cut flowers.
As her illness progressed, Kiki became bedbound; she spent her time watching old movies and enjoying conversations with new and longtime friends. She arranged a surprise video celebration for her mother’s 100th birthday in September, 2021, that included friends, family, and several members of their building’s staff whom they considered friends and extended family. Kiki and her mother remained devoted to each other until Penny’s death last year.
Kiki is survived by her dear, lifelong friend, Lou Ann Haan; her loving aunt, Angie Christou; first cousins Ted Christou, Ann Cussick, Eleni Vassilika, Philip Stavrides, and Diane Sward; many second cousins, including her goddaughter, Alexa Cussick; and her close friend and neighbor, Karen Yoffe.
Arrangements for her cremation were made through New Traditions Funeral Services. Donations in her memory can be sent to Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. May her memory be eternal.
