Lawrence “Larry” Housman Sr.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Lawrence "Larry" Housman Sr., who left us peacefully on the 15th of September, 2024, at Palos Hospital, Illinois. Born on the 31st of March, 1953, in the city of Chicago, Larry was a cherished son, a devoted father, grandfather and a loyal friend during his 71 years of life.
Larry's professional journey was diverse, beginning at Woods Overhead Door where he worked with his father, and culminating in his retirement after many years as a dedicated over-the-road truck driver. His work ethic and dedication to providing for his family were unwavering throughout his life.
A man of many passions, Larry's love for music was immeasurable, often serving as a companion and comfort throughout the years. He was also an enthusiast of the open road, frequently embarking on motorcycle trips with his beloved bike, "Babe." A collector at heart, Larry took pride in his knife and gun collections, and was content to spend quiet moments birdwatching or enjoying a good film. His love for the outdoors was evident in his fondness for camping and taking vacations with loved ones, creating a treasure trove of memories.
Larry is lovingly remembered by his brothers, Robert (Kathy) and Frederick Housman; his children, Marsha M. Proszek, April R. Housman, Kimberly A. Rucker, Lucille L. (Chris) Lietz, and Lawrence Housman Jr.; and his long-time partner, Dorothy Deady. He also held dear his additional family, Nick, Christopher, and Dana Glazebrook, whom he embraced as his own. His grandchildren Grayson, Jared, Faith, Jacinda, Christopher, Joseph, Anton, Destiny, Justin, C.J, Alyssa, Alexis, Gino, Jevon, Justine, De'jah, Lucille, and Haley, along with his great-grandchildren Jersei, Addilyn, and Olivia, will carry forward his legacy.
Preceding Larry in death were his mother, Lucille L. Housman; his father, Frederick J. Housman; his granddaughter, Samantha M. Hebein; his daughter-in-law, Sandy M. Housman; and his sister-in-law, Christine Housman.
Family and friends are invited to gather and honor Larry's memory at a Memorial Visitation to be held on October 7, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Celebration of Life Service 7:15 pm at the Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens Clubhouse, 7402 W. Lake Katherine Dr., Palos Heights, IL 60463. His life, characterized by love, music, and an appreciation for nature's gifts, will be celebrated with reverence and fond recollection.
