Mathew Joseph Remec

REMEC

Mathew Joseph Remec, an electrical engineer and longtime North Riverside resident, died following a stroke on April 9, 2022 at the age of 88. Mathew was born in Ljubljana, Slovenija on 2/24/1934 to Helena (neé Pollak) and Vladimir Remec. He received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois, and two Masters (math and electrical engineering) from the University of Wisconsin. He returned to the University of Illinois to receive his PhD in electrical engineering graduating in 1963. 

Mathew was an avid car enthusiast, and in his younger years a recreational pilot and motorcyclist. He always loved nature and enjoyed being outdoors with his wife, daughter, siblings, and many nephews and nieces. 

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Breda daughter, Nuša, brother Andrej and many nieces and nephews both in the US and in Slovenija. He is preceded in death by his sister Alenka and brothers Jacob, Vladimir and Peter.                    

Visitation: Friday April 29, 2022 10am until 11am Mass at at the Slovenian Catholic Mission, St. Mary’s Monastery, 14252 Main St., Lemont IL 60439. Inurnment: Resurrection Cemetery.  

*In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Mary Slovenian Catholic Mission, or to St. Mary Monastery to Friends of St. Mary’s, PO Box 634, Lemont, IL 60439. This is the foundation that supports the maintenance of the monastery grounds.
