Moore Weatherspoon Obituary

Moore "Tan" Weatherspoon was born to the union of Jessie and Tillie Weatherspoon on March 13, 1949, in Pace, Mississippi.

His family moved to Illinois in 1956 where he graduated from Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, IL.  He retired in 1998 from Kimble Glass Company in Chicago Heights, IL after 28 years of service.

He accepted the Lord at a young age and served under the leadership of Bishop Bennie Goodwin at Portland Street COGIC and Pastor L.T. Hutton at Holy Ghost Deliverance Center.

Moore was married to Olivia Carter from 1971 to 1980 and to their union was born two beautiful daughters, Tasha Marie and Patricia Ann.

Moore was an accomplished musician and played lead guitar for the quartet “The Holy Travelers” and traveled with renowned artists such as Shirley Caesar, James Cleveland, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Staple Singers and The Blind Boys.  Moore along with his brother Leroy won the 1964 Quartet Union Award for Best Guitar Players.

Moore loved fishing, writing and the study of music, skating, watching western movies and NBA basketball games. He especially loved good food.

He was also a musician for numerous churches throughout Chicagoland.

Moore joined Family Harvest Church in 2007 under the pastorate of Dr. Robb and Pastor Linda Thompson, where he was loved and admired by all.  While at Family Harvest he completed Music classes at the International College of Excellence.

Moore departed this life on Friday, July 14, 2017 after a long battle of illness, which he endured with a smile on his face and faith in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie & Tillie Weatherspoon.

Moore leaves to cherish his memory: Two loving daughters, Tasha Weatherspoon of Orland Park, IL; Patricia (Joe) Thomas of Loganville, GA.  Two grandchildren: Howard Weatherspoon of Loganville, GA and Seaman Lanisha Thomas, US Navy.

6 brothers: Elder Leroy (Ethel) of Harvey, IL; James, Walter (Cindy) of Lorain OH, Jimmy (Veda) of Flint MI, Joseph (Carolyn), Phillip (Andrena) of Lorain, OH

6 sisters: Jessie Weatherspoon of Harvey, IL, Annie Jean Redd, of Calumet City, IL,  Maggie Weatherspoon of Chicago, IL, Ida Rose Lenard of Los Angeles CA, Annette (Chris) Yost, of Maryville OH, Colleen Legard of Lorain, OH

Five Aunts: Sadie Skeen, Mildred, Lillie, Annie and Dorothy Curry all of Chicago

Three Uncles: Bithe Curry Jr., Charlie Curry, and Willie Curry all of Chicago, IL

And a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Special friends: Wilbur Harris, Cherise Ragland, Pastor John Paledino, Ron Collum, Tony Harden, Ron and Sylvia Williams, Manny Tovar, Janice Michalec, and Stephanie Goode, Evelyn "Carol" Davis, Lavell and De'Onna Griffin, and Rakisha Sloane.

Family and Friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Visitation on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 5:00 until time of Memorial Service at 7:00 pm at Family Harvest Church, 18500 92nd Ave, Tinley Park, IL.
