Richard H. Johnson

Richard H. Johnson, age 84, was born January 27, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest child of George and Mary, nee Jacobson, Johnson.  Richard went to be with the Lord he loved on April 29, 2019 surrounded by his family.  He leaves behind his beloved wife, Shirley, nee Heinichen, loving father of Jeffrey (Anne) Johnson, Gregory (Lee) Johnson, Kimberly Lyford, Leanne Evans and the late David (Maureen) Johnson; cherished grandfather of Kevin (Jessie) Johnson, Lauren Lyford, Jamie Lyford, Jeffrey Johnson and the late Matthew Johnson; fond brother of the late Arthur, late Raymond, late Gertrude and late George; treasured uncle, friend and neighbor to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. 

Richard was a US Army veteran, serving in the time between the Korean and Vietnam wars.  Richard and Shirley were married on September 1, 1956 in Alaska, while in the service. They later established a home in Oak Lawn, Illinois and were 61 years residents.  Richard was a 60 year member of Wesleyan Community Church and a man of great faith.  He worked as a mechanical design engineer for 47 years at Continental Can Co.  Richard enjoyed golf, hunting and travel with is family. 

 Visitation will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 3:00 – 8:00 pm at Wesleyan Community Church, 8844 S. Austin Ave. Oak Lawn.  Visitation will continue Friday, May 3, 2019 from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Service at 10:00 am at the church.  Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery in Oak Lawn.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Wesleyan Community Church will be appreciated.
