William C. "Bill" Campbell

 William C. “Bill” Campbell, age 87, was born September 27, 1932 in Quincy, Mass., the oldest son of Colin H. and Margaret, nee Hazelhurst, Campbell.  He passed away May 28, 2020 in Aurora, Illinois.  Bill was raised in the Hough’s Neck neighborhood of Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School where he enjoyed his role in the Drum and Bugle Corp.

 After high school, Bill entered the United States Air Force where he was trained to be a weather observer.  Bill proudly served four years, being honorably discharged in 1956.

 When he was 33 years old, Bill went to work for the LE Mason Co. in Hyde Park, Mass. where he ran a department of the company.  He later went on to work as a proud machinist for Westinghouse in Readville, Mass and then as a dispatcher for Hughes Oil in West Roxbury.

 On a special day in 1966, Bill saw a young woman named Carole Lovett.  As soon as he saw her, he knew she was the one.  The couple dated for three years before marrying on August 22, 1969.  They started their family and raised their loving daughter, Colleen, in Hyde Park.    

 In April 1998 after retiring, Bill and Carole moved to the beautiful area of Bellingham, Washington where they enjoyed 17 years before moving to Illinois in 2015 to be near their daughter, Colleen.  Bill and Carole happily celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2019.

 Bill is survived by his beloved daughter Colleen (Rusty) Merkle and cherished granddaughter Tanis Marie Merkle.

 Services will be private and at a future date Bill’s wishes will be fulfilled and he will be entombed in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass.
