Willie L. Evans, age 85, was born April 7, 1934 in Helena, Arkansas, the oldest child of Leroy Evans, Sr. and Josephine Mims Evans. He had younger siblings Marylin Evans Rowery and Jesse J. (Betty) Evans.
Willie came to Chicago at an early age and attended grammar school and high school on the south side of the city. After high school Willie joined the Army. After leaving the military, he worked various jobs before becoming self employed.
Later Willie joined the City of Chicago water department and took classes at Governors State University. Later Willie attended Moody Bible School and after graduating, became an ordained minister.
During this time he married Ruth Delores Smith. Willie and Ruth had two children, Larry and Leroy. Willie would go on to marry two more times and then found his life partner, Shirley Mae Jenkins. They were together until her passing in 2012. Willie was certainly a hard worker, but he also loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral and Committal Services will be held July 10, 2019 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd, Elwood, Illinois. Family and friends may gather at the cemetery’s Visitor’s Center before the service.
