John Bruno Cencula

John B. Cencula passed over peacefully at the age of 92. He now joins his wife, Eleanor, his parents, and his brothers, along with many family members and lifelong friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen (Bill Jr.) and Karen (Kim), three grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike), Bill III, and Julianna (Adam) and seven great grandchildren, Zachary, Bill IV, Francesca, Logan, Ashley, Aurora and Jayden.

Born and raised in Chicago, John attended Lane Tech High School and then enlisted in the Navy as a gunner on LST 459. He saw action for two years in the Pacific Theatre with General MacArthur's Seventh Fleet on the return to the Philippines.  John was a member of  the VFW Post # 4308 and the American Legion Post # 0703.

John followed in the steps of his father Bruno and became a master carpenter and built many beautiful homes for his family. He retired as a Superintendent in partnership with an architect in Lake Forest. John was an avid golfer, loved animals, a fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, had a great sense of humor and deeply loved and protected his family.

John's family will be holding a private memorial at a later date to celebrate his life and allow him to receive military honors to be conducted by the US Navy.

Dear Kathy,

How wonderful that you spent so much time with him. I'm sure it made for a more peaceful passing even though the separation is so painful right now. Love and blessings to you and your family!
